Haven Meged Makes The NFR During His Rookie Year!

“My dream has become a reality!! Wow, my rookie year…where do I even start. It was about this time last year when I was debating whether I was going to buy my PRCA card or not. My plan was to have at least two horses ready if I was going to go hard this year. I felt like I had the horsepower so all I needed was to know the ins and outs of entering the rodeos. Thankfully I had a couple guys that said they would help me out. So, I decided to buy my card. My first year with the PRCA has been both amazing and very humbling. I’ve learned a lot out on the road and one thing that will always stick with me is what Shane Hanchey told me one night after a rodeo in Livingston. “Haven, bud, if you don’t listen to anything I say the rest of my life, listen to these words: Don’t let your highs get too high or your lows too low. Keep your head up and be ready for the next one.” It took a while, but I had to slowly worked my way out of a slump. It’s tough out there you are competing against the best of the best, so you must stay mentally strong.
“Fast forward to the end of the 2019 season. It has been a year I will never forget. I’m heading to my first Canadian Finals and Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Making the finals has always been a goal of mine and when I bought my card, I told myself I’m going to do whatever it takes to get to the finals. Being a rookie means having to do everything for the first time. Figuring out which rodeos to enter, how to enter, places to practice, and how to keep your horses going all year. My traveling partner, Ty Harris, and I have kept each other going through the season. There haven’t been very many guys that have made it to the finals their Rookie Year and I don’t want it to end here. I want to pursue my goal and win that Gold Buckle at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.” -Haven Meged
